Building a personal branding strategy as an entrepreneur

Building a personal brand as an entrepreneur is essentially a four-step process. The steps are:

  1. Positioning – Define what your brand is about, who it is for and what your goals are.
  2. Content Ideas – What topics can you create content around that fit your positioning? We’ll dive into what makes good content ideas and how to find them.
  3. Creating Content – How do you package your content ideas so that it engages and grows your audience?
  4. Amplification – How do we speed up our growth and maximize the return on our time?

When you nail each of these 4, personal brand growth becomes inevitable. Let’s dive into each of them.

Positioning Your Personal Brand

Clarity makes things easier. The more clearly you can define who it is you want to attract with your content, the easier it becomes to create the content.

This step is where you lean into what makes you unique. Just like companies need to stand out from competitions in the market, your personal brand should stand out in the market for attention.

Unlike what some personal branding agencies want you to believe, only you can answer how you want your brand to be positioned. Here are three questions that can help you get some clarity:

1. Why do you want to build your personal brand?

Do you want to grow your business? Do you want to become known as a thought leader in your industry? Or do you simply want to attract interesting and like-minded people?

2. Who is in your ideal audience?

Are you creating content for CEOs or for teenagers? Are you making content for consumers or business owners? Each specific persona will require a different content strategy to attract.

3. What unique expertise or experience do you have?

Are you an aspiring entrepeneur or a seasoned CEO? Have you travelled to 150 countries or did you lock in and build a company for the past 10 years?

The best content will come from your unique experience. A great rule of thumb here is to create content that only you could have made. And that is where we get into content ideas.

Getting content ideas

As the name Personal Brand suggests, we are building something bespoke and unique. That is why the best strategy for content has always been to lean into your authenticity.

A great way to get content ideas is by taking a look at your past 2 years:

  • What challenges have you overcome?
  • What lessons have you learned?
  • What have you achieved? How did you do it?
  • What mistakes did you make?
  • What is the best decision you made?

At any given time, there are always people a few steps ahead of you, and people a few steps behind you. Writing for people 1-2 years behind you is a great way to attract a high quality audience.

Don’t underestimate the scale of the internet – there are hundreds of thousands of people online with the same problems that you were facing just a few months or years ago. Even if it looks dead-simple to you, your solutions to these problems can be great sources of content.

Another great way to get content ideas is by taking inspiration from creators that you align with. In fact, this can be done very quickly these days by using AI. At we’ve made it possible to upload websites, text, or files and extract high-quality content ideas from them. This is a quick way to get great content ideas that fit your brand and that are already validated.

Now, simply having great content ideas is not enough to build an audience. It’s time to enhance our personal branding strategy with high-quality content.

Creating your content

Whether you are doing personal branding on LinkedIn or YouTube, the principles of content are the same. All great content follows the same structure:

1. Hook – The hook gives people a reason to consume the content. On a deeper level, the hook promises people a reward. The anticipation of this reward is what hooks them into consuming your content.

2. Retention  – After you hooked people in, it is important to retain them. The longer you can make people consume your content, the better it will be for your personal branding. This means your content has to be engaging throughout.

3. Reward – As your content piece comes to an end, you want people to feel that they got value out of your content. This is what makes them come back for more. That is why you have to fulfil the promise that you make in the hook.

It is always a good idea to study what the top creators of a social media platform do. When I started creating my Linkedin content strategy for my personal brand, that is exactly what I did.

Top creators have refined their strategies over the years to find things that work best. Take inspiration from their hooks, their content templates and strategies.

At Axonn, we’ve actually incorporated many of the things we have learned from top creators. We’ve collected hundreds of powerful hooks used by creators to go viral and we combine that with engaging templates. This is how we give you an endless stream of content that meets all the criteria of top content creators.

This last step is where it all comes together. At the end of the day, a few great pieces of content are not going to build your personal brand. Building an audience is really a matter of consistency, volume and refining.

If you have a good personal branding strategy, it actually becomes quite simple to stay consistent. Here’s why:

1. You can repurpose your content ideas endlessly.

You can write up any idea from a ton of different angles. Make an observation, share a mistake you made, or give an actionable tip. Each time you can use the same content idea and package it up differently.

2. You can repurpose for multiple platforms

One piece of content can easily be converted to work for other platforms. Repurposing your content is really the key to maximizing the return on your time.

3. You figure out what works

Key to a great personal branding content strategy is doubling down on what is working. When you have content ideas that are resonating with your audience, you’ve got a clear sign that they want more of that. Don’t be afraid to repeat yourself – any piece of content is always only seen by a fraction of your audience. (in fact that is the secret of top content creators: they are always saying the same, just using different words)

Because amplification is so key to your content strategy we’ve made this a core feature of Axonn. Each content idea you provide us with is packaged up into 9 different angles (such as contrarian takes or actionable tips). You can also schedule each piece of content on multiple platforms effortlessly. In our analytics section, you can view which content ideas did best and we’ll give you more content like it. Your personal AI assistant will even give you recommendations based on what is working best for you.

Personal Branding is becoming crucial for Entrepeneurs

As the world continues to move online, having an online presence is becoming increasingly important for entrepreneurs. Growing your personal brand is difficult, but by having clear positioning, great content ideas, high-quality content and a system for amplification, you can make the process a lot simpler. At Axonn, it’s our mission to make creating unique content as effortless as possible.
